Office Hours for Prayer THINK BIG? Remember... Baby Steps

THINK BIG!!! think TINY

Struggling to Commit to Daily Prayer START TINY, START TOGETHER

Many of us struggle to start new habits.   How do we try to motivate ourselves? Everyone has their unique methods of motivation but many of us start with guilt over past failures and set goals we know we don't believe we can attain.  When it comes to prayer, the guilt seems to have us in a choke hold.  We think we are supposed to be spiritual gladiators leveling up to prayer warrior status overnight and struggle as we compare ourselves to each other.  To think of ourselves less as individuals in competition and more as one body of believers who are on this journey together can help us combat the intimidating call to prayer.

You might be thinking daily prayer sounds anything but small.  Committing to anything on a daily basis feels daunting.  In yesterdays post Boers gives great advise on  how to get started.
Boers advises starting regular prayer just once a day, either morning or evening. “It’s doable. You know what you’re doing. There’s a time limit,” he explains.
An easy start is best so this is why we are going to try something different and YOUR PARTICIPATION will help engage your heart in this daily discipline.  We will be using technology to help us gather.

HOW we envision these next 4 weeks:
  1. Launch Redeemer's Daily Office on September 5th-October 3rd via the Prayer Blog linking to Redeemer's Facebook and Twitter Accounts each morning from the Divine Hours.
  2. Your can click The Divine Hours: Prayers for Summertime, by Phyllis Tickle to order online or downloaded as an ebook.  We will be using this it for this daily prayer guide.
  3. We need YOU and your children to help create an audio file reading the Daily Office entries.  Each entry is around 3-5 minutes read aloud. We hope that hearing each other read the posts and following along will enrich this experience and connect us more quickly to participating together.  Involving our children will be a great time to experience this age old practice with them and aid them in realizing how special their prayers are to God.  The Dalgo's being able to pray with us in Kenya and hear our voices we hope will be a blessing to them.
  4. Prayer Requests for the Dalgo's and our Congregation will be listed on the blog.  The goal is to keep this not too lengthy to keep people engaged as we try to be sensitive to a time limit.

From the earliest days the church had set times of the day she would join in corporate prayer.  Join us in this short time of focused prayer and expect God to fulfill his promises of where 2 or 3 are gathered, He is with us.
